Do you know that there are 90,000 to 150,000 strands of hair approximately on your head alone? The whole human body has some five million hairs. Most of the body is covered by tiny hair which is barely visible. The hair growth occurs in three different cycles and the growth of hair in men and women happens under various genetic and hormonal controls. Our hair is made up of keratin the same protein that makes our nails.
The health of the hair totally depends on one’s general health. Even though the dry hair requires some oiling to stimulate the hair follicles it is a wrong conception that oiling the hair helps it to grow. Hair fall due to dandruff is very common these days and it also spreads to the other parts like neck, face and ears thus causing irritation. Hair fall due to dandruff can be controlled by shampooing at least once a week and keeping the scalp clean. However, it is better to use an herbal shampoo which does not contain high chemicals as commercial shampoos sometimes increases the hair fall.
The hair is also damaged when they are exposed to chlorinated water. It is always nice to rinse the hair after swimming. The other factors which affect our hair are chemical use like coloring the hair, pollution, and most importantly stress. To improve the growth of the hair and to avoid hair loss can be done by a well balanced diet as the nutrients to hair come within.
